New Dawn
“It is an eloquent dreamscape of ethereal figures in tranquil settings as if viewed from afar. The five works, oil on canvas, share that distance. The movements are alluring but families — what are they doing? The joint impression of ritualistic dance and vulnerability leads us to feel as if we’ve stumbled across something private.
Routine, movement and meditation are widely appreciated tools to assist with well-being and comfort. Gemma applies these to her works, which emerge in a compelling display of escapism. Are these women pledging themselves to a higher existence? They are at ice grounded and dreamlike; their features hazy and indistinct.”
